Environmental Week (Monday) – Gardening

We began this afternoon by transporting soil to the new veg beds and tyres down by the pond, litter-picking on our way. We also cut back overgrown bushes in the garden, collected leaves, put twigs in the bug hotel and took 'rubbings' of as many different textures as we could find.

KS1 Release their Butterflies!

Our butterflies were very active today, so it was time to release them. We took them to the Jubilee Garden and they fluttered quickly away; all except one with a malformed wing. That one is still in the classroom as he doesn't seem to be able to fly.

Butterflies have emerged in KS1!

We arrived at school this morning to find all seven of our Painted Lady butterflies have emerged from their chrsalides. Very exciting!

KS1 Visit Kingston Maurward.

What a wonderful day we had today. The sun shone, we did guinea-pig fishing (ask the children!), looked at animals that are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores and walked round the gardens looking for tree species. One of the goats took a bite out of Olivia's worksheet, but papervores wasn't a recognised species on our list! Ha ha that made us all laugh. We even had time to meet a gorgeous Harris Hawk called Emma. Thank you so much to our helpers today.

Butterflies on their way?!

The KS1 caterpillars have been in chrysalis for a little while now, so we have transferred them to our class butterfly gardens. They should be beautiful butterflies soon and then we can release them.
