Happy Dashain!

Today, the Y1/2 classes of Elm, Ash and Oak have been learning about the Nepalese festival Dashain.
Dashain 2012 takes place between 16th October and 29th October. It celebrates the triumph of Good over Evil. A traditional story tells how King Ram Chandra’s wife Sita was kidnapped by another King called Rawan. A great fighting force was assembled to return Sita safely to her people; on the tenth day of the battle, she was saved!
The tenth day of Dashain is therefore a very special day in this celebration; so tomorrow, October 24th, many Nepalese families will visit the temple and travel to be with their extended families.
In preparation for our school’s visit to the Temple on Camp this Thursday, we have made flowers and flower garlands, to decorate it. We will receive a small gift of sweets in return!
Look out for the posters around school wishing all our Nepalese friends and families A VERY HAPPY DASHAIN!
